This little robot has powerful suction and selective cleaning modes that make it an excellent accessory for a home with different types of floors in every room. You get to choose how intensely you want a room cleaned and how thoroughly you’d like it.
Deebot allows you to control it with a remote or an app, letting you have complete control in your pocket. It’s a robovac with anti-collision centers and bumpers for protection of itself and your furniture.
And weighing only 2.4 KG, it’s a quiet alternative to a traditional vacuum cleaner. ECOVACS developed Deebot to be efficient, nearly noiseless, and easy to control and use.
Who’s It For?
Deebot N79 can be great for you if you’re tired of robo vacs failing to deeply clean your home like some of the older models of these types of robots. The first robo vacuum was invented in 1996, so we’ve come a long way since then. And Deebot N79 has definitely incorporated some of the technological advances made since 1996.
It’s also ideal for you if you don’t like pulling out your hefty vacuum every single day. Vacuuming can be tiresome, especially after a long day of work. It can also be very loud and incredibly disruptive. Deebot N79 is quiet and can get the job done for you while you conserve your energy.
And finally, Deebot is also great at getting those hard to reach areas that a traditional, bulkier vacuum cleaner would have trouble reaching. So, you won’t have to move your heavy furniture around every time you need to clean. This is perfect for the elderly or people with physical impairments.
As great as this robo vac is for a wide range of people and home types, this wouldn’t be ideal if any of the following applies to you:
- You have thick, dark carpets and rugs
- You have high-pile carpets and rugs
- You’re looking for a solution to cleaning up fur from animals with long hair or double coats (Bernese Mountain Dogs, Huskies, Sheepdogs, etc.)
- You want to stop using your traditional vacuum cleaner altogether
What We Like About Deebot N79
Deebot N79 has so many noteworthy features that make it one of the best robo vacuums.
To start, Deebot N79 is incredibly quiet during the entire cleaning session, unless, of course, one of its sensors goes off.
This is a great quality for people with pets and babies who get disturbed by traditional vacuum cleaners’ sounds. It’s also great for students or those working from home who need a clean house but also need quiet time.
The V-shaped main brush helps Deebot to achieve a deeper clean by lifting up dirt and dust more efficiently. This helps keep your carpets clean and free of debris. Another helpful cleaning feature is that Deebot comes with four cleaning modes:
- Spot mode. Circles about 3-4 foot radius to clean a targeted area when intensive cleaning is needed. (3 minute cleaning time)
- Edge mode. Cleans specific edges and corners of an area.
- Auto mode. General cleaning of your entire home.
- Single room mode. Deebot will only stay in one room unless it needs to retreat to its charging dock.
We really like the cleaning modes’ versatility because each day calls for a different cleaning method. And if you’re wondering if Deebot actually stays in the room and doesn’t venture out in single room mode, it does.
It’s able to map out its path and surroundings, so it knows not to stray out of the room it’s supposed to be cleaning. This is extremely helpful because you won’t have to worry about guiding it along the way.
Additionally, if you have allergies or you have asthma and find yourself being affected by standard vacuum cleaners or even other robo vacs, Deebot might help with that.
It has an advanced air filtration system that is able to capture particles in the air during the entirety of it running. So you get clean air and clean floors.
We also really like how Deebot comes with a remote along with an app. The versatility of controls is great for elderly people and those who just aren’t tech-savvy. Or who don’t have any space in their phones to download more apps.
The remote control also already comes with batteries, so it’s ready to use. The app is easy to download and is available on Apple and Android, so that isn’t a hassle either.
Also, if you have stairs, you don’t have to worry about Deebot throwing itself down them. It comes equipped with anti-drop sensors that prevent that. Additionally, the likelihood of it running into objects is incredibly low. It has anti-collision sensors as well. But don’t worry, it comes with a protective bumper just in case it does happen to bump into something.
And when Deebot does sense an obstacle in its way, it’s programmed to be able to change its course and change direction without you having to interfere at all or without it even getting stuck.
What We Don’t Like About Deebot N79
If you’re thinking about replacing your regular vacuum cleaner with the Deebot, then, unfortunately, you’ll have to reconsider that thought.
It isn’t meant to replace regular vacuum cleaners completely, just shorten the amount of time you spend using a traditional vacuum cleaner and shorten the frequency in which you need to use it. So you’ll still have to occasionally pull it out of the closet.
If you’ve got a lot of wires lying around, like those from a Christmas tree, for example, using Deebot can be a pain. It’ll continuously get caught up and stuck in the wires. So you’d be better off avoiding the room with the wires entirely. You’ll have to pull out the manual vacuum yet again.
Also, it’s mentioned that Deebot is great for use on carpets. However, it doesn’t work too well on thick, low-pile carpets. It seems like the thinner, the better with this robo vac, which can be an inconvenience if you have a lot of chunky rugs.
Additionally, it doesn’t work on any type of dark carpet or rug. Apparently, Deebot sees the darkness and thinks it’s falling. Those sensors we mentioned earlier? Those activate in this situation, and Deebot won’t move an inch on your dark floors.
If the aesthetic of your home is centered around dark colors, you might have to forgo the experience of using this robo vac at all.
PROS
- Exceptionally quiet
- It sucks up a lot of dirt
- Has anti-collision and anti-drop sensors
- Can be controlled by remote or App
CONS
- Not great for thick or dark rugs and carpets
- Gets tangled in wires easily
- Doesn’t replace traditional vacuum cleaner
What’s Included?
When you open to box to reveal your Deebot, you’ll be greeted with another box, and then one more (this one has Deebot in it).
You’ll receive four side brushes, extra filters (sponge and high efficiency), a cleaning kit, a charging dock with a power adapter, remote control with a battery, and an instruction manual.
The instruction manual tells you how to keep your Deebot clean, how to assemble the side brushes and filters, and any other useful information you need to have a seamless experience.
The charging dock with the power adapter is where Deebot will retreat to when it loses its charge after cleaning.
You also get a one year warranty in case anything goes wrong with Deebot, with the option to purchase an extended warranty as well.
Overview Of Features
Battery Life
Deebot has a pretty impressive battery life compared to its competitors. After a 3-4 hour charge, it’s able to hold a charge for up to two hours. That’s an incredible amount of time to run for an average-sized home, and if you’re using it in an apartment, that’s even better.
When the battery eventually does wear off, Deebot will actually take itself back to its charging dock to recharge. This added convenience allows you to have one less thing to worry about in your day.
One thing you do need to note about the battery is that it is not replaceable. Once it dies, you’ll just have to throw it away and buy a new vacuum, since the company doesn’t offer any replacements.
But this can be easily done with a warranty, so it’s probably a good idea to get the extended warranty if you can.
Controller type
With Deebot, you have two types of control options: the remote control or the app.
The remote control is equipped with:
- Easy to read LCD screen
- Return to charger button
- Auto mode button
- Direction control button
- Start and pause button
- Schedule button
- Network setup button
- Spot cleaning, single room, and edge cleaning mode button
The screen and buttons are both a good size, so you won’t have to worry about not being able to see anything clearly or pressing the wrong buttons.
And if you need some visual direction, the instruction manual includes a diagram of the remote control as well to help you better navigate it.
Having all of the control buttons on one remote makes it really easy to access as well. The remote comes with batteries included too, so you can start using it right away if you please.
The ECOVACS app allows you to:
- Schedule cleaning time
- Access multiple cleaning modes
- Check out the accessory status and location
- Monitor the cleaning status
The ECOVACS app:
- Is compatible with both Apple and Android
- Requires 2.4GHz Wi-Fi
Just like with the remote, you don’t need to worry about any controls related to the charging dock because Deebot will automatically make its way over there when it senses a low battery power.
With the app, you are able to check in on your scheduled cleanings even when you’re away from your home. It’s also one less thing to buy batteries from and one less thing to worry about keeping up with.
The best part is that it’s compatible with both Android and Apple and requires Wi-Fi, not Bluetooth, to work. This makes it a lot more accessible to a wider variety of people.
Indicator lights and alarm sounds
You’ll see blue indicator lights on your Deebot when it’s docked and charging or when it’s moving around and cleaning.
You’ll see red indicator lights when the battery is low or when there is another problem you’ll need to figure out and troubleshoot. If you need to troubleshoot anything, the best place to check first is the instruction manual.
If you hear one beep, Deebot is stuck and needs assistance. You’ll notice this a lot around things like wires and cords. All you need to do from here is either remove the obstacle or place Deebot on a flat surface.
If you hear two beeps, you need to check the anti-collision bumper for debris and remove it. This can also be a sign you need to clean Deebot more often.
If you hear three beeps, Deebot’s anti-drop sensors are malfunctioning or the battery is low. If the battery is low, Deebot will make its way to the charger. If the anti-drop sensors are malfunctioning, check the instruction manual for troubleshooting tips.
Dust bin
The dust bin is equipped with a filter net, sponge filter, highly efficient filter, dust bin cover, and dust bin release cover. Because Deebot has two different filters, it really helps to clean the air around it, as it’s cleaning the floor instead of expelling dust and dirt particles.
Review Summary
Overall, Deebot N97 is an excellent robo vac for people who have light-colored, low-pile carpets, and hardwood floors. It works well with pets because of how quiet it is, and it’s also good at removing pet hair that isn’t too long or thick.
The quiet feature of Deebot is also great for babies, students, and people who just prefer to have a quiet home as much as possible.
Deebot N97 is equipped with great protective features like sensors and bumpers to keep it from falling and hitting surfaces too hard to the point of damage. It protects itself, and it also protects your furniture from being scratched or dented.
This little vacuum’s convenience starts with its controls with an easy-to-use remote control or an easily downloadable app. And the convenience ends with the charging dock that Deebot will return to once its battery is low.
There is little need for human interaction when using Deebot N97, and it’s ideal for most living situations and for more people. It can provide a great cleaning aid for the days you don’t want to break out the vacuum.
FAQ
Can you dock the Deebot underneath a couch?
If you have children around and don’t want them to mess with the charging dock, you can place it underneath other furniture only if there is a sufficient amount of open area on both sides of the dock. A couch might not be ideal for this, but placing it under a table could be a better option.
How well does this pick up hair and fur?
Deebot picks up hair and fur extremely well. So well, it might even leave vacuum lines. It’s better at picking up fur from short-haired animals than it is for long-haired animals. So if you have a dog that sheds a lot with a thick coat, you may need to use a traditional vacuum instead.
It’s great for most human hair though. This can be a great tool if you give yourself a haircut and need to clean up after yourself but don’t have the time to do it.
What happens when Deebot encounters obstacles?
When Deebot encounters an obstacle, this is when the obstacle detection system kicks in. It helps Deebot to avoid any kind of contact with your walls or furniture. When these sensors detect an obstacle, the robot is able to slow down and change direction.
Can Deebot clean up water?
Deebot cannot clean up any kind of liquid. You need to be very careful about any liquids being around the unit, as any kind of liquid, water, or any other kind will damage the unit.
How can I get Deebot to easily find the charging dock?
The best place to put the charging dock is against a wall and make sure that it’s plodded in. You’ll want to place the dock on an even floor service and ensure that the base of the dock is perpendicular to the ground.
Also, make sure there are no reflective surfaces near the charging dock. This can interfere with the infrared receiver and give Deebot a hard time trying to find it.
Can I keep Deebot on the charging dock for longer than it needs to be?
It’s easy to forget to unplug things from their chargers, but that isn’t a problem with Deebot. It has an internal battery management system. This means that after the batteries are fully charged, the system is able to reduce electricity. This leads to trickle charging the Deebot so it won’t overcharge.
Do you need to be home when you use Deebot?
You don’t have to be home when using Deebot. You can schedule it to clean once per day while you are away from home. The only issue is, if it gets stuck, there is no one around to move it. Because of this, it might be best to just set your controls for a single room cleaning or a spot cleaning while you’re away.
Will Deebot knock over a dog bowl?
Deebot will not knock over your pet’s water dishes. The obstacle detection mode will kick in, and it will change directions. It might push it a little bit, but nothing strong enough to have water or food all over the floor.
Can this unit clean multiple rooms that are located on the same floor?
Yes. Deebot is able to bounce around several rooms and is able to cover about 2,000 square feet before it needs to be recharged.
How long does it take to clean a space?
How long Deebot takes to clean your home can depend on which setting you decide to use. (Single room, edge, spot, or auto). It could take about one and a half hours to clean a 3,000 square foot place in auto mode.
On spot mode, however, it can take only a few minutes. Deebot stops cleaning an area when it senses there isn’t any more dirt nearby. So how long it takes to clean up an area also depends on how dirty the area is to begin with.
Can you use this vacuum on an area rug that has fringe on it?
No. It’s suggested that you don’t use Deebot on a fringe rug because it can get stuck on the fringes and potentially damage your rug. The fringes might also get caught up in the bristles of one or all of the cleaning brushes and damage those as well.
Is it possible for Deebot to scratch hardwood floors?
If you have new hardwood floors and are concerned about using Deebot, don’t be! Since it’s specifically made for these types of floors, the wheels of the device are wrapped and rubber. The rolling brush is also made of rubber. This material prevents your hardwood floors from getting scratched and damaged.
What voltage is the unit’s recharging station?
The input voltage and frequency of Deebot’s charging dock are 100-120V AC 50/60HZ. If you’re using this product overseas, you may have to invest in a voltage converter.
How wide is the width of the pass when vacuuming?
The Deebot’s dimensions are 13 x 13 x 3.1 inches (length x width x height). So, Deebot’s main brush in the front is approximately 13 inches.
