The product comes in a great package that includes the slim cordless vacuum cleaner, the Dyson registration card, the manual and other great tools. List of specifications
Suction power | It uses the cyclone vacuum technology with 2 tiers of radial cyclones. This vacuum part was re-engineered to raise the airflow and create high centrifugal forces. With this refined technology, the suction power is maximized. The V6 motor is one of the most powerful ones I've seen in a cordless. Check out this video which further elaborates on this: |
Input power | The vacuum is run by the digital motor V6 with an input of 0.6 A and an output of 7.80 mA. It has a 350W motor which spins with the speed of 110,000 RPM. The low consumption is assured by the re-engineered nickel manganese cobalt battery, which delivers 150% more power than the battery of older model. The power supply is continuous, with no fades until complete drainage. On the boost mode (highest suction), the DC59 batteries drain out in less than 7 minutes. However, if you use it normally, you'll get around 24 minutes, enough for most households and most cleaning jobs. And if you use the motorized tool, you'll still get to enjoy 16 minutes of pure power. I left the amazing part at the end: the battery charges completely in less than 4h. |
Dust capacity | The DC59 Motorhead is bagless, with a bin that has a small capacity of only 0.12 gallons. This means you'll most likely empty the dust bin after every cleaning session. The bin can be emptied with just a push of a button, however, make sure you low the part as much as possible into the garbage bag, as the release is making some of the debris to jump around. |
Filtration system efficiency | The filtration system is, as you would expect, a bit spartan, meaning that Dyson only employs a rinsable/washable filter to do the job. You can easily remove the filter, wash it, leave it to dry for about 24h and put it back in, just like in the video: |
Weight and Dimensions | The slim cordless vacuum weighs only 4.9 lbs. with the motorized floor tool attached, and has a height of 44-1/8”, a width of 9-7/8” and depth of 13-7/8”. What's great about this vac is that the center of gravity is located near the grip, which allows easier handling. |
Warranty | A 2 year warranty ensures you will not regret buying this vacuum cleaner. |
Accessories | Not counting the NMC battery, the vacuum cleaner comes with a classic crevice tool, a brush tool combined with a tighter nozzle, a detachable extension wand, a mini motorized tool designed to pick up hair and dirt from confined spaces, clothing and upholstery, a charger and a docking station with can be used together with the charger for creating a special place for the DC59. |
Special features | Motorhead Technology - the motorized head ensures 75% more cleaning power when handling carpets and rugs. Uses V Ball Technology - enables easy steering and moving. Run-time enhancing trigger - helps save battery, as you need to keep pressing the button if you want to use it. |
Usability | This product is unique. As the vacuum drives away the deep seated dirt in your carpet and floors, you will realize its a pleasure to use it. It has an increased surface coverage, powerful features and great attachments. The downsides of the DC59 include points that any cordless vacuum cleaner has: small bin capacity, small run time, not designed with large debris. The noise is acceptable if it is used in the normal mode. However, it produces a big noise if it is used in Turbo mode. Check out the review from Jim's Review Room: |
Price | You can purchase this product with the reasonable discounted price of $488.88 with free shipping offered by Amazon. The older model, the Dyson 59 Animal costs with approximately 25% less. |
Product Pros, reviews from real buyers
- Extremely lightweight and makes cleaning a breeze. Thanks to its ball, it’s so easy to clean floors and carpets. The vacuum can easily reach problematic surfaces, like the under the coffee table or beds.
- Unmatched suction power. Aside from that, the product is ultra light. It has low and high speed levels, suited for various cleaning surfaces. There is no better cordless vacuum out on the market.
- Works well on walls, floors and ceiling. This product is perfect to clean various parts of my home. The vacuum has sucks up everything without even getting clogged.
- A surprisingly great cordless vacuum. Even if the motor is on the handle, maneuvering the whole vacuum cleaner was super easy.
- Faster and easier. I had the previous DC59. This one is better.
- It is super convenient. Since a few weeks, my dog started to lose hair insanely fast. Not a problem for this vac.
Product Cons, reviews from real buyers
- … One thing I do not like: it has no place to store attachments onboard.
- … I don’t love the fact that you need to pull the trigger to keep the vacuum running.
- The bin is rather small. It does not hold much dust and dirt.
- Very expensive, if you ask me. Thank God I got it as a gift.
Conclusions, VG score and final words
The product was patented with the cutting edge technology. It had undergone some major tests to ensure customers that it will work accordingly. Unlike common vacuum cleaners, this cordless Dyson has a great design, great features, decent attachments and amazing usability. The only problems related to some disputed issues (the run-time enhancing trigger and the small bin) and of course, the price. Let me just say that this product may be expensive to some, but it is just reasonable compared against what it delivers. If you want a product that you just take and use, with no concern about plugging the power cord, or about mounting the hose, the Dyson DC59 Motorhead is the right one for you. Concerned by the price? We can still do something about it: check out this great deal I’ve found online for this vacuum cleaner. And now, straight to the VGM:

Hi Jason, love the website!
wanted your opinion on the Dyson DC50 Multifloor Upright Vacuum (Refurbished) at a 200$ price point (it says it is reduced from 600$).
What do you think of this vacuum ? Im planning on using it in my 2bed apt which is about 90% carpet but i definitely need something for the hardwood and tile floors and hopefully not have to make a separate purchase for it. 200$ is about what my budget is, although if there is something better I can stretch my budget a bit.
What do you use yourself and recommend?
Thanks

It’s a good purchase you should take it. On the hardwood, make sure you lift the brush bar. It’s a bit heavy and won’t go under furniture like the DC59, but at this price tag you won’t find a better deal.

Is this vacuum recommended for high pile carpet?
Would it be too hard to push, because it can’t be adjusted for
Various heights?
Jason Roberts says
I wouldn’t recommend the DC59 for high pile carpets. It’s not hard to push, but the suction power is not at its best.

Hi Jason,
Love your website! Quick question for you as I am trying to decide on which vacuum to get. I am considering either DC59 Motorhead refurbished for $279 on Ebay or V6 slim for $200. I have almost 100% hard wood floor in my apt so what would be a good vacuum for me? If none of these are a good model, what Dyson handheld model do you recommend that doesn’t go over $300?
Thanks in advance!
Nina

If you would have had carpeted areas, I would have advised you to pick the DC59 because it’s the Motorhead version, which has a wider nozzle and a more powerful brush. For $60-$70 more you even could get the new V6 Motorhead. Normally, for hardwood floors I would recommend the Fluffy, but it’s way over your budget. Under these circumstances, I guess your best option would be the V6 slim from Walmart.
