For almost if not all homesteads; cleanliness is a necessity and to maintain the standards, we regularly sweep and vacuum our houses. In several cases, having a clean home is not an option – it’s the only way of living. That happens if you are suffering from allergies or asthma. Nonetheless, vacuuming is sometimes not enough. Simply put, it’s hard (if not impossible) to completely clean surfaces like mattresses, sofas and bed covers among others. How do we cope with this then? If you follow me on a regular basis, you remember the Dyson V6 mattress I was talking about some time ago. It’s a useful tool, but Raycop thought they can do better, so they’ve come up with a more complex system. If you’re not familiar with this brand, you might want to check out their “About us” page. They’ve been around for more than a decade, but they just recently entered the US market. At the moment, the RS2-100 is their complete premium solution for the problems stated above. If you’re interested in such a machine, here’s what you’ll learn from me today:
- the complete specs of the Raycop RS2
- how it works, and where to use it
- how it compares with other products on the market, such as the Dyson V6 Mattress or the Raycop LITE
- from where to get a nice deal

Specs
Outdoor pollutants and to some extent dust mites form part of the major allergy and asthma triggers. Approximately 1 in 5 US homes are characterized by evident dust mite levels and a whole range of viruses and bacteria in their waste. A recent EPA study shows that a single mattress can host up to 10 million dust mites. If you want to sleep & live better, protect your baby-born or your loved ones, a machine which handles these problems is what you need.
Cleaning power
A reasonable Raycop RS2 definition places it somewhere between the lines of an air purifier and a vacuum. This household device comprises exclusive features which guarantee 99.9% efficiency in capturing common allergens. Raycop RS2 doesn’t just vacuum. In comparison to typical vacuum cleaners, a blend of optimized suction, ultraviolet light technology and pulsating pads makes Raycop RS2 3 times as effective. It has a brushroll which agitates the particles from the surface of the fabrics and 2 pulsating pads which vibrate 5000 times per minute and thus contribute to the agitation process. An UV lamp sanitizes the vacuumed area. The suction is optimized, as to prevent the device from sucking in the fabrics. There are 3 power settings available: Heavy, Normal and Delicate. You can use the “Heavy” operation mode on mattresses and couches, whereas the others are suitable for pillows and drapes.
According to the producer, the extraction rates are as follows:
- 99.99% bacteria extraction after 2 seconds;
- 99.99% virus extraction after 5 seconds;
- 99.8% pollen extraction after a minute
- +90% house dust extraction after 3 minutes
Input power
It’s not a cordless. The power cord is retractable, as you could see in my video. The unit consumes 300W. Of these, the UVC lamp alone consumes 11W.
Dust capacity
Since the RS2 is not really a vacuum cleaner, it doesn’t need a large bin. The recipient doesn’t even fill, because the dust powder will only deposit on the small black dust bag. The RS2 can be used on a 35 sq ft mattress before it needs a clean dust bag. Luckily, Raycop added an extra one in the package. Thus, you can rinse the one which is filled with dirt under plain tap water, and use the other one while it dries. You can also use the small dust brush to clean the mess, but I recommend you to do this outside, or at least above a garbage can.
Dimensions
Measures 15″ x 17″ x 6″ and weights around 6 lbs, which is a bit heavy. The effective cleaning width is 9 inches.
Accessories
- 1 cleaning cloth
- 1 cleaning brush
- 1 spare dust box
- 1 cradle for storage
- the manual
Filtration
Often when purchasing an item and particularly one for this type of cleaning, its capacity to guarantee a near-perfect cleanliness is among the major considerations. With a dual filtration system incorporating a high quality HEPA, Raycop RS2 definitely stands above most of its contenders. This purification system traps and eradicates 99.9% of the airborne particles. The HEPA is easily accessible at the back of the unit, and it should be replaced once every 6 months or so.
Special features
Pets and humans shed skin and hair on a daily basis, which is ‘food’ for dust mites. With a robust and ergonomically well designed brushroll, Raycop efficiently entraps hair and dead skin flakes. The pulsating pads have a vibration sequence ranging from 4600-5000 every minute. Thus Raycop RS2 has ample power to rouse and loosen dirt, dust and dust mites. It also utilizes a powerful 11W UVC lamp made in Japan with a calibrated wavelength which allows for a lesser exposure period to be enough for eradicating most bacteria.
Usability
Operating the RS2 is intuitive. Besides, the user manual is complete and well written. It is a bit heavy and could be smaller, but the plastic wheels on its base allow you to maneuver it with ease. The power cord is 12 ft long, enough to allow a smooth operation. One of the major concerns is the noise that it produces. If you use it on the “Heavy” setting, the machine gets pretty loud. I guess that’s the downside of having a powerful air suction. The sound diminishes drastically if you use it in the lower operating modes.
Warranty
As a testimony of the quality of this cleaner and purifier, the manufacturer offers you a one-year limited guarantee.
Price
The RS2 is not cheap. Prices vary between $300 and $400 and occasionally, you can find a good discount for it.
