I’m happy to announce that the Shark ION P50 Powered Lift-Away cordless upright vacuum is something to get excited about. This is not a drill. SharkNinja has come up with a miniature war machine disguised as a vacuum cleaner, and our enemies – also known as the accumulated dirt and debris in our homes and cars – won’t know what hit them. The Shark ION P50 is an upright, cordless vacuum cleaner that is comprised of multiple parts. These include detachable floor nozzle, hose, handle, wand, removable dust pod, and a rechargeable ION battery. A duster crevice tool, a dusting brush and an upholstery tool are among the attachments, as well as a charging kit for the ION battery that includes a charging cradle and charging cable.

Power and Suction
This small guy, working on DuoClean Technology, is deceptively powerful for its size and appearance. The removable floor nozzle has a bristle brush to deep clean carpets, plus an added soft brush roll that will help drag in larger objects. It works wonders on both hardwood and carpets. Going into ION Boost mode will give your guy an extra kick, too: when in Lift Away mode, pressing the “Boost” button at the top of the display panel feeds the vacuum cleaner a literal boost of power. Be careful to keep an eye on your battery’s power level, though, since putting the vacuum cleaner into “Boost” mode will drain it much faster than if you keep it in regular mode. I estimate the suction power to be at 100 AW in boost mode.
ION Battery
What makes this vacuum cleaner stand out from its competition is its cordless capabilities, made possible by a powerful, high-capacity 28.8 volt Lithium-Ion battery. It can be charged in four ways. You can opt for out of vacuum charging by removing the battery from its holster and plugging it directly into the socket with the charging cord. There is also the in vacuum charging where you keep the battery in its holster and plug the cord into the side of the product. The third method is in the charging cradle where you plug the cord into a special dock. And finally, the in charge and go method, which lets you rest the entire vacuum cleaner against a charging dock, which is plugged in.

Charging options
Shark made this possible, probably to accommodate more batteries. However, you must purchase these additional batteries separately. It only takes roughly 3.5 hours to charge the battery, although the producer recommends you to leave it charging over night. There is a LED light-powered display with handy buttons that will flash when the battery is running low and needs to be charged. The same LED remains on when charging, and turns off when it’s done. This is handy because you can keep an eye on your charging battery even from a distance.
The running time depends on how and what you vacuum:
- 50 min – Lift-Away mode
- 30 min – Upright on hard floors
- 28 min – Upright on hard carpet
- 18 min – Boost mode
Dust Cup
0.54 quarts (0.6 liters or 20 oz) is a good size for your average cordless. One thing I hate is having to stop in the middle of vacuuming to empty the dust cup out before I can resume, just because the capacity isn’t big enough. You definitely won’t have that problem here. Besides, cleaning the dust cup is a simple process, which is also a great plus. All you have to do is detach the dust cup, hold it over a trashcan, and slide the bottom out. If you feel like going the extra mile and want to clean the lint screen as well, that can be accessed easily from the top of the dust cup. Easy, stress-free clean up.
Filters
The dust cup is lined with an anti-allergen seal. Attached you’ll also find a HEPA filter— two excellent features that you won’t commonly find in your average joe cordless vacuum. What’s that, you may ask? Anti-Allergen Complete-Seal Technology helps capture dust particles and allergens bigger that 0.3 microns on a basis of a standard test called ASTM-F1977. Still in the clouds with this explanation? Let’s me make things clear: the certification is not important – what is important is that this vacuum has a very good filtration system, suitable to be used around allergic persons, better than many other filtration systems. Vacuum cleaners without the complete seal may kick dust back into the air before it even makes it to the filters; this technology guarantees that 99.9% of particles will reach the filters safe and sound. So if you’re not a fan of kicking up dust when you clean, or have someone in the house who is sensitive to dust, keep this feature in mind!
Weight and Dimensions
The product weight is 12 pounds, with a shipping weight 20 pounds. Its dimensions are specified as 10.2 x 12.4 x 44.8 inches. The colors are black with a limestone finish. Pretty to look at and lightweight enough to not feel like you’re lugging unnecessary weight around. Still 12 lbs is a lot when compared with other cordless vacuums. Luckily, thanks to the Lift-Away technology you won’t need to lift the entire unit.
Warranty
The Shark ION P50 comes with a 5 year limited warranty for the vacuum cleaner, and a 2 year limited warranty for the lithium ION battery. That’s more than I’ve seen in other cases. If you happen to utilize the warranty and receive a replacement, the warranty in question will remain active for 6 months after you receive it.
Accessories
The accessories are a lot. There are 15 options to choose from at the moment, including but not limited to:
- Over 5 different types of crevice tools for those hard-to-reach, tight and narrow spaces.
- 3 kinds of dust brushes.
- 2 kinds of upholstery tools to help you remove dust and debris such as pet hair, human hair, etc.
- A few different tools made specifically to remove pet hair from your floors and furniture.
- Micro tools for tiny spaces such as for cleaning your computer keyboard, your car dashboard, and other delicate cleaning projects
Here’s the entire list:

Shark P50 accessories
Price
It goes for around $450, which makes it a mid-range product. I’ve tested many cordless vacuums which are way cheaper. Nevertheless, occasional discounts can be found here.
Shark ION P50 vs Shark IONFlex vs Dyson V10 Absolute
Model | Bin size | Suction Power | Weight | Autonomy | Charging time |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Shark ION P50 | 20 oz (600 ml) | 100 AW (estimated) | 12 lbs | 50 min | min. 3.5 hours |
Shark IONFlex | 9.6 oz (284 ml) | 100 AW (estimated) | 8.7lbs | 23 min | min. 3.5 hours |
Dyson V10 Absolute | 25.6 oz (757 ml) | 150 AW (estimated) | 5.9 lbs | 60 min | 3-4 hours |
Conclusion
Users noted how quiet the vacuum cleaner is in comparison to others. The DuoClean Technology is exceptional. The floor nozzle is motorized, making it easy to push across the floor. It works very well on all type of floors. On the drawbacks list, there’s only one battery – it would be useful to have a backup included. Another con is the weight of the battery, which makes the body of the unit to be a little heavier. Some of the accessories are sold separately, and they are pricey. But considering that the product performs admirably, it seems to be worth the investment.
In conclusion, you should definitely consider the Shark ION P50 as your next cleaning buddy. Goodbye dust bunnies, you won’t be missed.
