Today I’ll be reviewing a new vacuum cleaner released by Shark just a few weeks ago. After reading this article, you’ll know what are its main strengths, its few weak points and most importantly, where you can get a really nice deal. The Lift-Away proves to be a high quality vacuum cleaner and a floor-care product that offers great satisfaction to its owners. And the perks don’t stop here. The materials used are far superior to prior Rotator versions. The design is completely new, although it continues the same principles and follows the same lines as older Shark vacuum cleaner models.
Many customer reviews show that this appliance stands out amongst most recent vacs, since the services it provides are also complemented by a considerably low price and a favorable 7yr warranty. There are many 5 stars ratings on most online shops, and the people whom I’ve contacted declared themselves completely satisfied by the NV652. Another thing good to know, this vacuum has a twin brother, the NV651 (Shark Rotator Powered Lift-Away Deluxe) and originates from the NV650, the basic version. The main difference between the NV651 (Deluxe) and NV652 (TruePet) is that the latter comes with an additional pet tool and with the accessory bag. Here’s the NV650 brief infomercial from Shark Clean (my advice, use the slider button, this guy is pretty boring):
The sheet of features
Suction power | As I was saying in the intro, the newest Rotator model has a good suction power: 270 AW (Air Watts). Compared with the Dyson DC65 which offers only 245 AW, it is better and cheaper. However, it still has a long way to go - i.e. there are many Phillips canisters with 350AW and higher. |
Input power | 1200 watts, a standard in this field. |
Dust capacity | 0.825 gallons, a lot bigger than most uprights, and certainly bigger than Dyson's Cinetic Big Ball. |
Filtration system efficiency | Shark has really paid attention to this aspect. Not only the Rotator NV652 has HEPA filtration, but this is accompanied by the Anti-Allergen Complete Seal Technology, a must have in our days. This mix ensures no airborne particles escape the vacuum cleaner. |
Weight and Dimensions | Weights 15.6 lbs, which is lower than other uprights produced by Kenmore or Miele. Measures 12.8 x 15.4 x 35 inches, common dimensions for an upright. |
Warranty | Comes with a 7 years warranty. If you buy it directly from SharkClean, you'll get lifetime VIP warranty, along with a Shark Steam Pocket mop. |
Accessories | Comes with a wide selection of one-of-a-kind accessories: the TruePet mini-motorized brush especially designed for pets, a new patented E-Hose, a quick-release wand, the Hard Floor Genie attachment built to handle bare floors, the 2-in-1 Dusting Genie for fine dusting, a regular pet power brush (which you'll get with the standard version) and a regular dusting brush. Check out the entire set of accessories:![]() |
Special features | The are a lot of things to mention here. For starters, it's a 3-in-1 vacuum cleaner, an unique solution to your cleaning needs. The Caddy can accommodate the storage of several cleaning attachments. The ultra-quiet working behavior of the Lift-Away is admirable and I bet you can appreciate it if have experience with different other vacuum cleaners. |
Usability | The stretch hose is 7ft long and the handle has been designed to provide an ergonomic grip to further increase the agility and ensure the safety and comfortability of your arm as you work on the surfaces. The handle has a LED light which helps you to spot and reach for even the smallest debris. The 30 ft long cord allows you to clean large areas with less effort, but unfortunately, is not retractable and has to be manually rewinded. |
Price | A little bit more pricey than regular Shark models. However, if you really want to buy this product, be sure to check out this great deal. |
Lift-away capability is a feature that greatly raises the rank of this product among its competitors. You can separate the reservoir and vacuum motor so as to use the pod unit as a portable cleaner which makes it easy to clean areas that are difficult to reach, such as the stairs and corners. Also, you can let the pod be on the caddy and it will function effectively as a canister vacuum.
The 270AW suction power is a good indicator of the efficiency and capability of a cleaner to take up dust and other materials from the floor, carpet or ceiling. It matters a lot as it also determines the time you use to vacuum your home. The Hard-Floor Genie allows for high quality bare floor cleaning and has a washable micro fiber pad that works great on bare floors. There might be other brands of vacuum cleaners with a similar feature, but this one is so far one of the best I’ve seen.
This vacuum cleaner produces very little noise when working. In fact, you can easily be tempted to test it with your smartphone, I know I was. Averaging between 65 and 70 db, Shark produced both a great achievement and surprised me in a positive way. The dust cup is extra large and ensures that you do not have to stop vacuuming to empty it. Ie. I could vacuum my entire house with just one go. This saves precious time. No loss of suction is a guaranteed feature as the cyclonic system performs excellently in separation of dust particles and fine dirt from the air. This helps to keep filters safe from being clogged after a short time. However, always remember to clean filters as the manual indicates so as to maintain the optimum efficiency of the vacuum cleaner.
Rotator has swivel steering, which allows you to maneuver it around with much ease. In fact, some people complain about the over-steering phenomenon. It can be detached and laid completely flat, which enables you to clean under low clearance obstacles where other vacuum cleaners can not reach. This feature ensures that your hand is safe from straining and at the same time contributes to your thorough clean.
The filtration system is designed using a technology that takes care of the allergic users. It traps almost 100% of dust and other potentially allergic substances like mite feces, as they pass through the large capacity HEPA filter. With the 2-in-1 Dusting Genie, even the finest particles are barred from getting into the breathing air around you. The pet upholstery tool makes it possible to lift all pet hairs from your couch, carpets, delicate fabrics and curtains.
The TruePet lifts up loose debris, pet hair and deep cleans surfaces. The Hard Floor Genie attachment provides the best cleaning experience when working on bare floors. It also includes a micro fiber pad that picks up finer debris. With the TruePet Mini-Motorized Brush, you control the power of the motorized brush and ensure the result of the cleaning is nothing less of magnificent and dust-free. The HEPA filter should be washed at least once a year, as stated within the guidelines provided in the product’s manual.
Pros reported by happy buyers
- The ergonomic design of the handle encourages you to vacuum.
- The lift-away feature is very useful.
- The 7 year warranty speaks for itself. In other words, the manufacturer is confident about the quality and performance of this appliance and therefore, you too can count on it.
- The price is a steal and this makes people satisfied.
Cons reported by unhappy buyers
Since no appliance can be 100% perfect, the Lift-Away has a few short-comings:
- Some fibers and strings from various stuff tends to stick in the rotating brush bristles. This might be an inevitable problem that will often force you to manually remove these materials as a maintenance measure to ensure that your cleaner works efficiently.
- The weight of the vacuum cleaner and canister might be too much for some people. Together, these two weight to about 16 pounds and this, according to some reviewers, is a little too much to carry around, especially upstairs.
- It does not have an auto cord rewind feature and this forces you to wind the cord back after you are through with cleaning. This is somewhat old-fashioned, but still very common in today’s vacs. I bet it was difficult to incorporate the auto rewind system into the design without compromising some other crucial features.
Final words, VGM and my recommendation
Compared to other vacuum cleaners with similar functionality, the Shark Rotator TruePet Powered Lift-Away is a steal. It is cost-effective and offers plenty of reasons why people should buy it. Here’s my VGM (VacuumsGuide Mark):

Great review. I think the weight is wrong. It’s under 16. I tried it at BB&B last weekend and it is considerably lighter than my Miele tango which is a hefty 22 lbs. Either 26 lbs is the shipping weight or someone double counted the canister which is 8 lbs. Can you please check this?
Jason Roberts says
Thanks for this, I usually double check, I meant 16 lbs. I’ve modified the article.

I am trying to purchase the New Shark Rotator TruePet Powered Lift-Away (NV652) vacuum. I contacted Shark and was advised that Kohl’s and Bed, Bath and Beyond carried this product. Kohl’s Web Site states that this product of Out Of Stock and Bed, Bath & Beyond’s Web Site states that this product is no longer available online. ANY assistance you can provide me in locating this product will be greatly appreciated.
Best Regards,
~ Taylor
Jason Roberts says
Unfortunately, they’re out of stock on Amazon too. Walmart and Sears don’t sell this online either, so I guess if you really want the NV652 model, you’ll have to wait a little time. Otherwise, you can get the NV650 from Walmart website.
Kurt & Jeananne says
We just bought an NV752 with all those bonus tools and such on Aug 2, 2015 at Kohl’s in Tavares, FL.
Price was $349.99 – 20% (@$280)Plus you get $70 in Kohl’s Cash for other purchases.
WWW says it’s $429.99 but NOT in store.
*You are right about the suction, top notch. It’s easy to use and clean out when full as well.
CON: the replacement foam filters set are @ $28 = ouch! Eventually all foam degrades from hand washing.
N.M. says
I tried to buy a NV652 at BB&B a few weeks ago. They weren’t allowed to sell it to us (very strange).
Called Shark directly, they said there was an issue with the wands in that model, so they pulled them off shelves (and online).
The alternative for now is to purchase a NV650W online and get the accessories separately, for $350 total. Pretty steep.
Hopefully Shark will hurry up and re-release the NV652 (fixed) as a package again to the retail stores…
Jason Roberts says
I’ve been also asking around for which reason the NV652 was temporary discontinued. Seems like the quick-release wand has some design issues. Pretty unfortunate, an right in the middle of the Spring cleaning. If you don’t need to buy it right now, wait a couple of weeks, I’m sure they’ll have it back online and at their favorite retail stores.
Leslie says
I just called about mine, because I received an email from Amazon directing me to do so. They are swapping out my wand, but asked me not to use my vacuum until I receive the new one. Such a request makes me kind of nervous. It’s an amazing vacuum, though!
Amy Oberer says
I had also attempted to purchase the NV652. I just spoke to Shark customer service and was told the same thing, issue with the wand. The representative proceeded to tell me that the Nv652 is the same vacuum as the NV650 that they offer for $249 on their website. She said that the 652 number is just the number they use for retail…. That doesn’t seem to be the case though does it?! Ugh, Why does this need to be so complicated? Any help her would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Jason Roberts says
There not quite the same, the color/aspect is different, the set of attachments is obviously different and so it the wand (the one that needs to be changed). The NV652 is the latest version, the NV650 appeared more than a year ago. Did they say when will it become available again?
Amy says
Unfortunately they were not able to give me a time frame. They said at this point it is a voluntary recall. They are going to publicly announce it soon. She said it could be a lengthy process to retrieve the stock, replace wand and restock. She was pushing the NV650. In your opinion it’s worth the wait for the NV652?
Jason Roberts says
Hmm, at this point, considering your info and the fact that Spring cleaning is here, I’d go with something: either the NV650 or a discounted Dyson. But if you can wait, wait. Every owner whom I spoke with praised it.
Amy says
I think I will try to hold off. Thanks!
Deb says
I am confused on shark models. Was set on 652. I have 2 dogs, hardwood and tile and plush carpet. Does 651 and 650 sweep in under beds? With motorized head? New home and dyson cannot do hardwood floors or go under beds.
Jason Roberts says
Yes, the 650, 651 and 652 differ in color, not in design (or at least, barely in design). They have the same structure so they can definitely go under beds.
Valin says
How does this model differ from the NV500 series?
Jason Roberts says
NV500 is the older Rotator model. Several things are improved with the NV650/NV651/NV652 models, such as the suction power, the filtration system, the set of accessories, the bin capacity and steering control.
John says
I’ve been reading up on the Shark models and have been noticing sites like Best Buy still have the NV501 as their best model rating it at a 4.7 Star with 755 reviews. The main purpose I would be using the vacuum would be for ceramic tile floors which daily accumulates hair, dirt, dust. I have only a few door carpets and would also like to use the tools for vacuuming couches when needed. The NV501 is listed around $250. Not sure what the NV652 is running, but my question is, for the daily usage I will be using the vacuum for, what vacuum should I best go for? Since I’m investing over $200, I want to make sure I’m getting the right vacuum. Thanks in advance.
Jason Roberts says
Don’t get me wrong, the NV500 is a great vacuum cleaner which I loved to test. The NV652 is about $300, there’s no much difference. For this money, the NV500 is one of your best choices. Better units come from Miele or Dyson, but the price tag way higher than $200.
Chris says
I love this vacuum. The NV652, that is. I am sorry to hear about potential wand problems, but I haven’t had any problems with my wand so far.
I was not a fan of bagless vacs and once had a brief, very bad experience with one, so I have stuck with the heavier bagged vacs such as Miele and Kirby, but after seeing the reviews on this one, I decided to give it a try hoping for a lighter and more user friendly vacuum. I’ve had it several months and it was just what I was hoping for.
I am eager to see a Consumer Reports review of this particular model as to deep cleaning score and, to date, they have not reviewed it. But my own perception of the carpet deep cleaning, which is important to me, is that it seems to be very thorough for the type of vacuum without a manual height adjustment. For a house with a cat during shedding season, it has sucked up unbelievable wads of cat hair even when used daily or every other day. Shark vacuums are sometimes known for leaving large amounts of pet hair at the brush roll (hair sticks to it), but I’ve checked this regularly and there is no hair adhering to the brush roll.
This vacuum performs at a top notch level as to suction and matches Kirby which I always viewed as the gold standard. If you’re not careful, the vacuum will suck things far out of the line of the attachment that you didn’t intend to suck up (even car keys almost got devoured once) and the highest setting is almost too much for dusting as the dusting tools want to adhere flat to the surface, but fortunately there are 3 suction settings and the 3rd setting is more than adequate for basic dusting. My carpet is nicely “lifted” even in high traffic patterns that are more matted down. The carpet just looks cleaner after using this.
But what I want to stress about why I like this vacuum so much is the user friendly design. You can start at one end of a room and and easily navigate through various modes or configurations in a simple click and go from carpet upright to canister to portable and with handle only or longer wand for attachments. So you can go from carpet to floors to dusting to grabbing that cobweb on the ceiling as you move through the room. The handle is very comfortable to use in any mode and while the floor nozzle headlight is very effective, there is also a headlight on the handle for above floor cleaning that I would now have trouble doing without. The ability to control the mode, speed and turn on/off from the handle regardless of using in upright or tool mode is very convenient. The tools (some of which I bought separately) are very well designed and I will call attention to the bendable, multi-angle duster which was worth the extra money. The motor driven pet hair tool that comes with the vacuum (not extra) is a step ahead of the wind or suction driven tools that come with most vacs and does not bog down, though it does take some getting used to as the proper angle to hold it. I am remiss at not mentioning the ability to decouple the canister from the wand in upright mode and retain the moving brushroll (this is probably the biggest difference from the NV501, which does not have this ability). I use this feature more than I expected to for use under furniture, which it gets completely under or in tight spaces.
I have only two negative comments. This will tip over if you’re not careful when using the hose in “upright” mode. While the hose is not stiff and it is designed to be stretchy, the suction of this machine constricts the hose and it’s not as long as it might seem when the vacuum is turned off. Also, while the dust bin is not an ordeal to empty (pretty easy and trouble free for the most part), fine dust does adhere to the walls of the bin and to get that out, you have to clean it with bare hands or rinse it out.
I love this vacuum and highly recommend it. I hope this wand thing is an easy and quick fix for them as this vacuum is so easy to use, well designed and a decent price for all it does.
Jason Roberts says
Thank you Chris, for this outstanding feedback.
Ellis neuhardt says
I have the nv652 great vac, no problem with wand, but the vac seems to be pulling a fair amount of capet fibers out of capet. I run it on the high pile setting, anyone else experience this?
Jason Roberts says
That is strange. It may be your carpet. Have you tested it on anything else (a rug, a low carpet)?
Demi Pantazatos says
So I have a white little mix breed canine furball who sheds like crazy and whose hair fly around the house, defying the law of gravity. I currently have a Siemens Family & Pets 1800V model (pretty old) and I’m considering the purchase of this product. My only concern is, since I reside in Greece, is it compatible with the greek electric power system?
I found some details here: http://www.adaptelec.com/?main_page=document_general_info&products_id=145
Thank you in advance!
Jason Roberts says
All Shark vacuums are built for US (that is if you buy them over Amazon.com). In Europe, I believe you can get them for those TV infomercials and companies such as Top Shop. These are already using Eu adapters. If you buy the model from US, you can use an US-EU adapter. They are pretty cheap, you can find those under $10.
Amy says
FYI, Bed Bath & Beyond now has the tru pet model back in stock. They have changed the model number from NV652 to NV752. So essentially what seems to have been done is the recalled stock was fixed and relabeled (new NV752 sticker placed over NV652 on the manual. ) I just purchase it a few days ago and extremely happy with it thus far.
Glen Abdelnoor says
I am glad I found this site, I was looking to find why this model was discontinued. I had this model and had the exact problem that it was recalled for. I would be in the hard floor mode, and suddenly the roller would engage itself. I noticed the handle would start slipping as well. Best I can gather is that since there are 3 pins in the hose handle, that each mode is made to work by enabling or inhibiting a connection. With the connection loose it was sending a false signal to the rest of the vacuum. Sad, because aside from that problem I loved the product. We have two large, very active dogs and this vacuum was the only one that seemed to be able to keep up with daily clean-up.
Angela says
Love the review and the additional reader comments. Seriously considering this vac rather than replacing some parts on my current Hoover. One comment about your review, can you double check the length you list for the stretch hose (in the “usability” section)? A 30 ft power cord perhaps, but a 30 ft hose??? 🙂
Jason Roberts says
Sorry, it slipped! Thank you!!!
Andrea m. Curto says
Thank you for your review. I have four dogs, three are MASSIVE shedders with fine undercoat hair, and three cats, one long-haired with extremely fine hair that stick to everything. I have been looking for a vacuum that would be able to handle my group. Your review was thorough and complete. Thank you for taking the time to do this. Your knowledge and website are invaluable.
Julie Smith says
Hi Jason,
Thank you for the great review. I’m thinking about snagging one of these NV752 models, but I have a question about how I will use it to clean stairs that have carpet along the middle, but wood on either side. There are so many pieces mentioned in the many reviews I’ve read that they’re just a bunch of jumbled terms that I can’t quite sort through with confidence. Would I be better served getting the NV370? Most of our house is hardwood flooring, but the staircase has the carpet runner, and the upstairs guest bedrooms are carpeted. My expectation is to use this vac mainly on the hardwood & staircase, since the guest rooms won’t be used that often. What do you think?
Jason Roberts says
Actually, I’ve just seen the NV370 greatly reduced on Amazon, so given your cleaning profile and considering the financial part, I’d go with the Navigator if I were you.
Joan lindley says
I haven’t been able to use my n 650 pet hair vac much. Wand recall, Haven’t received it yet even though it’s driving distance from my house. So I decided to use it hose and car brush attachment. It worked for a few days, now it doesn’t even turn on. I am cleaning filters again. My Dyson I could completely take apart myself. The Animal. Still exists , I am still buying a Miele because my daughter works so fine auto cord,, quiet,it’s older now but amazing. So why doesn’t it my navigator NV650 switch on. I have bad thumbs at first difficult, no j7st painful. But getting treatments. Now very manageable. Not on ever all day today. So sad. I loved vacuuming. I may just go buy a Miele tomorrow , n9 matter the cost. Allergies, asthma. Liked it so much at first. Now no wand , no power. I haven’t used it much either. I have a filter drying for 2 days. That’s a con. Got to have two sets of filters.
Precious Sunshine says
I bought this on Amazon, used it 3 times and it stopped working. Went back to Amazon and they had done a recall on the vacuum because of the wand. I can’t even return it to Amazon now because they removed all the listings. The lights come on but the motor won’t come on and suck up dirt at all. I’ve cleaned all of the filters very thoroughly and let them dry for more than a week. Still nothing. What can I do??
Jason Roberts says
Although Amazon deleted the listing of the NV652, they sell the same product under the NV752 name (check the links in the article). So you should call Amazon’s support and present your situation. If you got the product less than a month ago, they are forced to take it back no matter what. Anyway, I wouldn’t worry about this, Amazon is known to handle warranty issues with care and professionalism. If you still find an obstacle on this way, you can also call Euro-Pro, they’ve recalled the NV652 voluntarily, meaning that you can send them the product and they’ll have to send you back the product in functioning shape.
Louise Engert says
I had a problem with a Navigator not turning on. I called the HELP line (on the machine!!) and a very helpful tech person walked me through a reset of the machine. Easy enough for me to do at home. So please call the Shark helpline for any problems with the machine stalling or not turning on. You do need the numbers on the plug for service.
Anita Dentler says
Hi !
I would just like to say i got my shark vacuum yesterday i was so inpressed i had so much fun cleaning with all the tools it come with in my books i have nothing bad to say about this product it is awesome it does everything it says it does i like the way it picked up the dirt and hair in my carpet i could not believe how much came up i have a big dog and the true powered pet tool worked great i am sold i also like the floor genie it works great picking up and my steam mop works great as while. So if anyone out there is thinking of buying one it worth everything i payed for it and more. Some of the tools i have not tried yet but i will today and the shipment was fast i ordered it on 06/08/15 and got it on 06/11/15 i love my new shark, i will not ever buy another walmart vacumm again my shark vacuum out does them hands down.I got the new shark rotator powered lift away vacuum very happy with my product thank you shark………
Karen S says
I recently purchased the Shark NV752 and I love it. The ability to vacuum under furniture instead of moving it had me at “hello”. I am curious about one thing, however. Does the power head had belts that power the roller and if so, how do you replace them and where do you purchase them.
Jason Roberts says
I think the power head doesn’t require any belts to work, but I might be wrong. You can check Sharkclean.com for any parts, and as you can see, there are no belts you can purchase.
Karen S says
I’m wondering if anyone knows of some kind of adapter that will fit on the new shark nv762 that will allow it to accept tools from an older shark rotator. It’s very frustrating that the tools aren’t interchangeable. Maybe some kind of reducer.
Jason Roberts says
Unfortunately, you’ll have to find a custom solution for this. I haven’t heard of any connectors to bond attachments from other models to the newest Rotator.
barb walker says
I am considering buying a Shark Rotator Powered Lift away. Looked on QVC and found model V33186 with 8 attachments for $279.96 how does this model compare to NV752?
Jason Roberts says
It’s the same base model, but doesn’t have the TruePet mini motorized brush. It’s called the NV651Q and it’s only sold at QVC, with colors different from the original ones.
Torrey says
I’ve also been lookin at the one offered on QVC for $279 free shipping and comes with 8 attachments. It does say it comes with a “pet power brush.” Is this different than the true pet mini motorized brush? I don’t have any pets but still curious. I’m still thinking the one one QVC is the best deal I can find right now.
Jason Roberts says
The Power Pet Brush is different from the TruePet Mini Motorized Brush. The latter is newer, more versatile, especially designed to get pet hair and dander out of pillows, upholstery and so on. The first one is around $12, and you can get the second for $49.
Jo Marie Moore says
Just purchased a 750w model from Shark. What is the difference between the 650 & 750 model?
Jason Roberts says
There is no difference. The 650 models had problems with their wand and were recalled. The 750 models were produced later after this incident.
Jo Marie Moore says
I received a Shark steam mop with my Shark vacuum. Am now reading it can damage laminate floors. Haven’t tried it yet. Thinking about sending it back to Shark. Your thoughts, please.
Jason Roberts says
It’s true, steam doesn’t work well on laminate flooring, but you can use it on many other bare floors, including sealed wood, tiles, marble and linoleum. Moreover, I don’t think you will get any benefit from sending it back, since it’s a gift, a bonus which comes with the real product purchased by you.
Terry says
Cannot seem to figure out the difference between the:
Shark Rotator NV752 Powered Lift-Away TruePet $349.99 amazon
Shark Rotator NV751 Powered Lift-Away deluxe $345 amazon
Jason Roberts says
The NV 752 comes with the TruePet Mini-Motorized Brush attachment, and has a cherry color while the NV 751 is light gray and has a slightly different nozzle design.
Russ says
Does the 751 have the True Pet Mini motorized brush attachment as well?
Jason Roberts says
No. That’s the main difference between 751 and 752.
Don Lindgren says
I find the buying experience with these Sharks to be very difficult. There are so many model numbers out there and there seems to be little or no difference between them. I get the sense the only thing different about them is the accessories. Is there somewhere that spells out exactly what each package consists of?
Jason Roberts says
You are precisely right. The number difference originates only from the lack or the presence of different accessories. The seller will have to tell you exactly what the package contains.
Liz says
I’ve been reading reviews on the NV752 which has rave reviews as well as info on other models and brands. I mainly have tile and hardwood flooring with some carpeting and am more focused on hard flooring cleaning. Without breaking the bank, >$300, what would you recommend?
Jason Roberts says
If you’re into hybrids, you could check out the Bissell Symphony or the Floormate Spinscrub (both vacuum). If you want to vacuum alone, the Shark Rocket DeluxePro has a Hardfloor Genie attachment which is very efficient.
Janet Bockting says
Is the NV752 good for hardwood floors? My house is all new hardwoods except for tile in bathrooms and kitchen. I want to purchase one that will not damage my floor.
Jason Roberts says
Don’t worry, the Rotator has a special setting for bare floors (which includes hardwood floors).
Rita says
I’ve enjoyed reading all of this feedback. Has anyone had any issues with the truepet attachment no longer rotating?
Scott says
Does the 751 have the same suction and cleaning as the 752? I really don’t need the motorized pet tool, but if the motor/suction is better on the 752 I’d go that way. Thanks
Jason Roberts says
They have the same motor/design, so the suction is the same.
Judi says
You can buy the shark rotator deluxe with 11 attachments from QVC for $291.79 that includes shipping costs.
ray rameka says
hi there i was wanting to know how do i order a shark as i seen it on tv but didnt get the number and needing one please
Jason Roberts says
You can call at 800 798 7398, but be sure you check my recommended links first!
Abby says
Is this the same as the nv750w they are selling on the shark website for $249?
Also Costco is having a sale on the uv560 model if I’m not mistaken for $170. I currently have a Kirby which I love the suction but hate how heavy it is and having to replace the bags. Which do you prefer out the the two models I listed. Thank you so much for your reviews!
Jason Roberts says
Yes, it’s the same. As I was saying in the article, they have a good exclusive offer on their site, and they also throw in a steam mop and a lifetime VIP limited warranty. VIP means you ship it free (if broken). However, there are a lot of people that prefer to deal with Amazon directly. Between the 2 models, I like the new one more (the NV750).
Go Fish says
Just a comment about the retractable hose: Sixty years ago, when I was a child, we had an Electrolux with a retractable hose (that worked, always) and it was a fabulous canister vac. This Shark (with the caddy and canister) looks a little like the Electrolux.
george farraway says
Jason, very informative review. However i am confused about the accessories included. When i go to the shark website above, their description does not list all of the accessories listed above in their exclusive offer with the lifetime warranty and free shipping. Included are the dusting brush, crevice tool, pet upholstery tool, canister caddy, under appliance wand, and the steam mop. I don’t see the 2-in-1 dusting genie, true pet mini motorized brush, and hard floor genie which i understood were included, nor (which may be optional) the foam filters, accessory bag, multi-angle dusting brush, or home and car detailing kit. And of course the Amazon site lists different accessories.
Would you mind clarifying one more time?
Jason Roberts says
On Amazon, you get: the Hard Floor Genie, 1 microfiber pad for the Genie, the TruePet motorized tool, a caddy to make your unit a canister, the dusting Genie (which is a crevice tool and a brush with hard bristles), a dusting brush (with soft bristles), an upholstery tool and a bag to put all the stuff in.
On Shark’s website you get: same caddy which allows you to transform your unit into a canister, the same dusting brush (with soft bristles), the same upholstery tool, a 11″ crevice tool (instead of the dusting Genie), an under appliance wand as a bonus.
The filters are included in both versions. But as you can see, if you choose to get Shark’s exclusive offer, you will not get the Hard Floor Genie (no pads either) and the TruePet motorized tool, which you need to purchase separately. The multi-angle dusting brush and the home and car detailing kit aren’t included in any offer, you also need to get these separately. You do get a Steam Pocket Mop though.

Clear now. Thanks Jason.

So is amazon a better deal/or shark exclusive you have to upgrade to get hard floor genie/pet tool for 89$ total 339/
Jason Roberts says
Amazon works for a lot of people for several reasons. For starters, it has the greatest return policy ever. Don’t like the product? You can return it, no questions asked. This supersedes the manufacturer’s warranty, which is in many cases harder to get. IMO, both offers have their share of positive points. It’s also easier to order on Amazon, shipping cost may be 0 (for prime members) and so on.

Hi Jason,
I have been looking at the Shark Rotator Powered Lift Away vacuum in a few different places, and I have narrowed it down to buying it at Costco or directly from Shark.
If I buy it from Shark (the TruePet upgrade) I would get the following accessories in addition to those offered at Costco:
Dusting Brush
11″ Crevice Tool (these are in addition to the Dusting Genie Tool which both Costco and Shark include) -I’m not sure I need these in addition to the Dusting Genie Tool.
Multi-angle Dusting Brush
S3251 Light & Easy Steam Mop
Lifetime Warranty versus 7 year Manufacturer’s Warranty thru Costco
Costco has the vacuum in a gorgeous Teal Blue color, rather than the Bordeaux (which is a bit too red for me).
The price difference is $115.00. I can get the Steam Mop for $58 on Amazon, and can order the Multi-angle Dusting Brush for $25.90 including shipping. I don’t think I need the Dusting Brush ($7.95) or the 11″ Crevice Tool ($9.95) when I already have the Dusting Genie.
So the price difference if I buy the Steam Mop and Multi-angle Dusting Brush myself would be $36.65. Is it worth paying the extra money in order to get a Lifetime Warranty? Or is it likely that any problems would show up in 7 years? I prefer the Teal Blue, but I can live with Bordeaux if having a lifetime warranty would be worth the extra money..
What do you think??
Thank you!!!
Jason Roberts says
IMO, 7 years is really enough for a vacuum cleaner at this price. Some people may think otherwise. I guess it’s just a personal choice, but I would change my vacuum once every 10 years, because new things appear, and I like to keep myself entertained, even as I vacuum. The color is also a factor. I don’t usually like the idea of using the same thing for 20 years or more. It really depends on the product, and in this case, I would take the Costco option.

We recently purchased the Shark Navigator Professional Lift-Away Professional Vacuum. We love the vacuum but have some real concerns about the seemingly very rigid bristle roller pickup system. The very fact that the vacuum has two settings (one for bare floors and the other for carpets) seems to imply that damage could possibly be done to linoleum style floorings (ie: possible scratches or gouging) if the pickup roller was accidently left on while vacuuming the linoleum style kitchen flooring. I would very much appreciate your thoughts regarding our concerns as we have just recently renovated our kitchen and we respect your opinion greatly Mr. Roberts. Thank you in advance for your reply sir.
Jason Roberts says
The bristles are IMO not as dangerous, but if you want to be sure, you can always switch to bare floors mode. You could also test if they do any damage in a small corner of your sensitive floors.

What does the NV 760 compare with in other Shark vacuums? I always see it with the steam pocket mop. I’m curious what what vacuum this is without the pocket mop…
Looking for a good pet vacuum.
Thanks~!
Julie
Jason Roberts says
The Shark NV760 may be included in the latest Rotator family, so it’s similar to the one presented in the article. Additionally, you’ll get a Shark Steam Pocket Mop, which I guess it’s a good deal for someone in need of such a device.
Pat says
I am looking at the NV760 at my local Sam’s. I don’t see that model on Shark’s website. I’m guessing they put together a package for Sam’s and gave it a different number. I need help finding out which vacuum cleaner is the same model on Shark’s website. Thanks!
Jason Roberts says
It’s the same with the NV751.

Hello,
Wonderful review so glad that I found this site. I am considering the Shark Rocket Deluxe or the Rotator Lift away. I have a 3000 sq ft house with mostly carpet, I also have two set of stairs and I want to be able to dust and clean ceiling and hard to reach areas. Which machine would you recommend for my situation. I have a Eureka Airspeed and Hoover windtunnel T series currently but want something with better suction and cleaning power. Thanks for your assistance and knowledge.
Jason Roberts says
Which Lift-Away? The professional or the newer version, the one I was talking in the article, the Powered (NV750 series)? If you’re referring to the new one, this unit definitely has more power than the Rocket. The Rocket is meant for quick cleanups. The Rotator is though to be use in all types of cleaning chores.
michaele says
I am trying to find out which Shark is better. The nv751 or nv752. They both have the pet motorized tool, one is called the mini in the 751 model. I got the nv752 which has the larger pet tool at BB&B over the weekend for $280 plus another 20% off with coupon, about $224. However I am unclear which pet tool is better. I have several indoor pets and this is important to me. I called Shark and was told they are the same just the pet tool is smaller?I have not used it yet pending your answer. Thank You.
Jason Roberts says
The 752’s pet tool is better. It’s called Truepet, it gives the name of the unit. It’s a classy way of handling pet hair.
Gretchen says
We are having new carpet installed, SmartStrand one of the premium softer carpets. The Mohawk website recommended several vacuums including the Shark NV650/651. Does this vacuum work well on the newer, softer carpets? We need a new vacuum as our current one, Dyson Animal will not work on this type of carpet.
Jason Roberts says
I would say the Shark NV750/NV650 units work decently on most types of carpets, but I’m not really sure about yours. Having a softer carpet with long fibers means you need a vacuum cleaner with height adjustment, or a special cleaning method (i.e. by sound vibration – check out the Soniclean Soft Carpet, which unfortunately, doesn’t come with any attachments). It should have big wheels and a relatively large mouth. The Miele Dynamic U1 fits the profile. The Bissell Big Green Commercial BGU8000 or the Oreck Commercial U2000RB2L-1 should also do well on your new Mohawk. I’m planning to make an article especially on vacuuming/cleaning these Mohawks carpets.
Deb Edwards says
I currently use a Kirby (way too heavy), and an Oreck (I question its suction and efficiency) to clean with two cats in the house. I am intrigued by the reviews and your comments regarding the Shark NV752, but I have some questions. Shark reviews on other sites have mentioned a problem with some models easily tipping over when the hose is pulled. Does this problem exist with the 752? What is the difference between the 752 and the 750W? One of my biggest annoyances is trying to vacuum dry cat food from the kitchen floor and kitty litter from a linoleum floor. All my past upright vacuums have sent the dry particles flying out the back instead of sucking them up. Even the slower speed on the Oreck doesn’t help. Will I have this problem with the 752 also? BTW….awesome site and information! So glad I found you!
Jason Roberts says
First, the tipping over problem. All the NV 750 models have this small issue, but it’s not as exaggerated as some may think. You can easily handle the unit or the hose to prevent this from happening. There is no difference between the 750w and the 752. As for the kitty litter/dry food problem, you need a vacuum for bare floors (or at least one which can toggle between carpets and bare floors, such as this Shark).
john says
Im interested in the shark nv 681 speed model but can’t seem to find many reliable reviews on that model
do you have any advice?
Jason Roberts says
I haven’t managed to look at this model, but it looks the same with the 750 series. The difference between the NV752 and the NV 681 might be in the handle controls, the additional head and the attachments.
Sarah says
Hello!
I am so glad I found your site! I was just told by my local Oreck retailer that the extremely plush carpets in my new home are killing my Oreck. Talk about a blessing and a curse. I believe it’s the XL Classic model. I have owned it with no problems- until the new house- since 2009. Of course, Oreck is recommending that I buy the Magnesium RS. However this Shark TruePet looks like a great machine for a much lower cost- and I can get it at Costco for even less. I have a large dog who sheds (top and under coat) as if her life depends on it. For this reason, the extra pet attachment with the rotating brush piques my interest. I would say half of my 1200 sq ft is the uber plush carpet, a quarter is lower pile carpet, and a quarter is tile and wood laminate. I know this one is twice the weight, but I am in a ranch with no basement, so no stairs to navigate. Do you think the TruePet can handle my plush flooring? I love Oreck and would recommend it to anyone, so I feel a little bit traitorous. What would your advice be on which vacuum to choose? or perhaps another vacuum all together?
Thank you so much!
Sarah
Jason Roberts says
Sarah, the Truepet is an attachment, one which has a small nozzle opening, and it would be very hard for you to vacuum 600 sq ft with it. It is mostly meant to vacuum upholstery, sofas and pets (of course). Plush carpets are sensitive, and a brushroll with stiff bristles would wear them. You need a vacuum with height adjustment, big wheels, a powerful air flow, good filters and an edge over pet hair. The Rotator is great because it won’t tangle, but it will also eat some of your plush fibers. The Oreck Magnesium RS definitely fits most of the requirements. The Miele Dynamic U1 Cat & Dog is another good option.
Ray says
Can I turn off the beater bar?
Jason Roberts says
It doesn’t have a beater bar, but you can turn on/off the brushroll by selecting a different vacuuming type directly from the controls on the handle.
Tiffaney says
Hi Jason,
I just ordered an NV681 but noticed that it doesn’t come with the canister caddy. My previous shark liftaway (not powered liftaway) didn’t come with one either and it would fall over constantly. Do you think it would be worth the extra $ to get the NV682 from BB&B (about $30 extra) instead? I know it also comes with the motorized pet brush which is great for narrow spaces… I also hate the color of the NV682. AHH, decisions, decisions. WWJD?
Jason Roberts says
IMO the caddy and the Truepet brush are worth the extra money. Except for these 2 things, there’s no real difference between them (excluding the color). Btw, what’s wrong with the color? I like the light blue, it makes me feel like I’m using a clean unit.
blanca says
I am considering buying the 752 model at costco, but wondered if the included dust away hard floor attachment is the same or similar to the floor genie? My house is laminate, except for an area rug in living room, so I also wondered if this would be the best for my floor needs and also for cleaning drapes, under beds, etc. I saw infomercial for the powerhead but I liked the versatility of the 750 better. Thank you for your input.
Jason Roberts says
Yes, the Dust Away is very similar to the Hard Floor Genie, they have the same purpose and the same working principle. Their design is almost identical.
Judy Rogers says
what is the difference between a NV760 and NV751??
Jason Roberts says
There’s no difference, except that the NV760 package includes a Steam Pocket mop.
Leah Skinner says
I am looking to buy a new vacuum, and I’ve been reading all the reviews about the Shark Rotator TruePet Liftaway ($249) and the Shark Rocket Ultra-Light Upright Vacuum Pet Series ($199). (Both featured on their site right now with a “gift with purchase steam mop”.) I have a long haired cat who unfortunately sheds frequently and occasionally tracks litter around the bathroom, and I live in an apartment that is about half carpet and half wood. Which vacuum would you recommend personally? Thanks!
Jason Roberts says
If I’d be in your shoes, I’d buy the Shark Rotator TruePet.
Meredith says
I have gotten myself thoroughly confused this last week. After seeing the infomercial, I knew this was the vacuum I wanted. However, when I started price comparing at various stores….I HAD NO IDEA there were soooooo many model versions of the “powered lift-away”. I tried to find info on the 681 vs 682 and could not find much. Most info is related to the 650’s and 750’s. What is the difference between all these models? Do you have a handy comparison chart available perhaps? If was able to purchase a 682 model for $208, will I be a happy as if I purchased the 650 or 750 pet models for $350? Please help this confused housewife. Thanks in advance!
Jason Roberts says
Meredith, what you need to know is the following. All the models use in essence the same design, the same motor and the same filters. Most differences are in accessories, color, warranty timeframe, wholesaler, and of course, price. The most complete models can be found on sites like Amazon. My recommendation is the Shark Rotator NV752. Models like the NV682 don’t include i.e. the caddy and the Truepet brush accessories, that is why they are cheaper.
Donna Richards says
Thank you so much for all the information! I too found the model numbers a bit confusing and wound up purchasing the Shark Rotator Tru Pet model from Shark so I would be sure to get all of the pet accessories. I checked the box on their website for the upgrade to the Tru Pet package ($ 80.99) additional. After checking out, my invoice showed the model number as NV750w and left me a bit concerned that it didn’t reflect the NV752 model number that other websites listed for the Tru Pet model. After reading your article, I feel more at ease that Shark uses their own model numbers and based on my total price of $375.88, (ouch) I’m sure that upgraded me to the Tru Pet model along with all the accessories along with the VIP Lifetime Warranty. Unfortunately, my order is on back order with an undetermined date of delivery. I will be calling them to check on that since I am eager to try this new vacuum out. I suggest if you are as eager as I am to receive it, you may want to contact them first to find out when the model will be available so you can decide whether to purchase it elsewhere. I hope this helps some questions you may have come across as well. Thank you Jason for all the information!
Katrina says
I am so over thinking this. I am a first time dog owner due to recent marriage. My loveable German Rottweiler keeps my carpet & linoleum full of hair, so he isn’t allowed on the furniture My germaphobia won’t let me go that far. Laminates will be replacing the carpet in a few months, so I am having a hard time deciding if the TruPet model and the hard floor genie are worth the extra money. Pleasr HELP!! My current vacuum died under the pressure so I need to decide quickly.
Jason Roberts says
Good choice on replacing your flooring, the laminates are much easier to clean after pets. That means you can choose among a variety of models, including the Rotator which in your case, should be great, especially if used with the Hard Floor Genie attachment. Other good models on bare surfaces are the Shark Rocket Powerhead and the Dyson V6 Absolute (or the Fluffy version). Also consider buying a steamer.
Dave says
Costco sell a Shark UV795. Is that the NV752 vacuum with a different bundle of accessories ?
Jason Roberts says
Yes, that’s right! Or better said the NV750, with a different set of accessories, as NV752 is the complete version.
Sarah says
I was wanting the NV750 True Pet version (maroon/bordeaux in color). I got on shark’s website to purchase it, but come to find out they have a new offer. The new offer is for the XL Capacity model UV795 (navy in color). I chatted with a representative and she (Danielle) said that its a true pet version, just a different color and different retailer. It’s $10 more however and from what I can find online.. the UV795 weighs 13.4 pounds more. Is this true? To me this is a huge difference! Can you help me out?
Jason Roberts says
Of course it’s not true. These guys never pay attention to values, especially when differentiating between the box weight and unit weight. The weight difference between the NV750 and the NV795 is actually pretty small (1-2 lbs). The capacity is increased to 0.925 gallons. The rest of the specs remain the same.
Diane says
Which is better the nv 652 or the newest version nv752 I am so confused every time I think I made up my mind another one pops up. And which one comes with the canister holder? help!
Jason Roberts says
The NV652 is the same with the NV752. They are one and the same. The NV752, NV751 (NV652, NV651) usually come with caddies, but you’ll have to confirm with the seller to be sure.
Diane says
Well I just bought the NV752 it is the true pet model and it did come with the canister and the floor genie, I did a lot of research and I think I got the best deal. I got it from Bed, Bath and Beyond online and was able to use my 20 percent off coupon. So I got a really great deal. When it arrived the handle was scratched and they were very fast to replace it. I would recommend this vacuum to everyone!
Jim Miculka says
Do different stores get different models? I am looking at either a NV752 which I found at Kohls, Bed Bath and Beyond and J.C. Penny’s or the NV755 which I only see online. I have yet to figure out the differences in those two. Now I read where you said NV652 is also the same as the NV752. I saw an ad on YouTube for QVC which has a Shark Lift Away with a lot of accessories but I couldn’t determine the model. Is there a chart that list all the models with all the features and accessories. That would seem to make comparisons easy, but I have yet to see such a chart.
Jason Roberts says
Jim, for sure different stores get different model numbers. What you see selling in BB&B is a model not available online. It’s a brand issue. Don’t worry, I’m planning to do a chart like to one you mentioned in the near future. I’m planning to include all the latest Rotator numbers, to settle this once and forever.
Lorena Duke says
Hurry up, we are waiting!!!
If I purchase the NV752 or NV683, it will be my fourth Shark I purchased
this year. They keep improving except the 30 foot cord is too long and
dangerous. Leave it that way so I won’t have to buy another vacuum any
time soon.
Include Air Watts, Watts, and weight in your charts. Thank you.
Jason Roberts says
Done, check it out. Suction power included.
Grace says
What is the difference between the 752 vs 501? I am also confused on these models.
Jason Roberts says
The 501 is the old version of Rotator. The new version starts with the 650 models (650, 651 and 652), 680 models (680, 681, 682 and 683) and then the 750 models (750, 751, 752, 753, 760). The newer XL models are 755 and 795. Check out my latest Rotator comparison chart.
Laura says
Is the nv650 and nv750 the same?
Jason Roberts says
Not quite. Check out the Rotator comparison chart.
Lynn says
I am looking at a UV 795, how is this different from the NV752? Are all the cleaning paths the same width? Is there an advantage to one vs the other? I need a big dirt canister, and a long cord, and a wide cleaning path would be nice, but not as important. Thank you for your help!
Jason Roberts says
Check out my latest comparison chart which contains both these models. The cleaning paths have the same width of 12″. The UV795 has a bigger canister (bigger with 0.1 gallons). The power cord has the same length of 30 ft. The main advantage of the XL version is the larger bin. Unfortunately, this comes with a bigger weight. Watch out, the accessories also differ. The NV752 is the most complete.
Carole says
Let me know when the chart is up on line!
Want to purchase this vacuum. But as I’m living on SS alone, I need to make the best choice.
Too many choices.

I am almost 80 years old….can’t make up my mind a dyson or this shark…I need a vacuum that will get close to baseboards ,my old ones did not,I also have a black cat light carpet and light chairs, not a good mix,too many decisions .not worried about price got new carpet today and want it to last. Please which one you can e-mail if you would rather,Thank you sir
Jason Roberts says
My first recommendation is to choose the lighter one, which is the Shark (supposing you are comparing it with the Dyson Cinetic Big Ball). Dyson just released a smaller upright version called the Small Ball, which you can check here. Both get really close to the edge of the baseboards, both work great on almost all the types of floors. Dyson is a bit more durable, Shark is a bit more usable. There’s also the option to get the Shark Rotator Speed, a lighter version of the Rotator, which I’m planning to review soon. I think this would be the best option in your case.
Patt says
I purchased a Shark Rotator Powered Lift-Away XL Capacity at Costco, came home excited I had a new vacuum, and the floor brush did not work. It did for maybe 2 seconds, then stopped. I checked to see if it had a brush roll stop for packaging, and it did not. I called Customer Service, they had me go through disconnecting, and connecting, and intermittently it would stop, then after about 10 attempts of power off, power on, it would do they same thing. A second or 2 of floor brush rolling, then stop. A new vacuum was sent to me, SAME problem. Called CS again, asking what am I doing wrong? They put me through the same tests again, and a new floor head was sent. Same problem! Called CS again, they thought it was a power issue, and they sent another floor head. Same problem. So now I have had 2 new vacuums, with 2 additional floor rollers, and I still am not able to clean a carpet, or to be able to use the floor roller. When I call CS, they tell me they have not had this problem with any other customers. Really? I am so lucky that I have had 2 brand new vacuum cleaners, along with 2 separate floor brush attachments heads, and I am still not able to clean a carpet with the floor roller? Am I REALLY the only customer with this problem?
Jason Roberts says
Wow, I never heard a story such as yours. I’m waiting for other people with this problem to write here, but again, this is the first time I’m hearing this kind of happening. How about testing the unit directly at Costco, before taking it home?

Phil says
I have a UV795 and our dog chewed up the power cord. I can’t find a replacement cord on Amazon? Where can I buy one?
Thank you
Jason Roberts says
Phil, unfortunately, from what I see, Shark doesn’t sell spare power cords. There are some generic cords on Amazon, for Navigator or Rotator models (not the UV785 though). Depending on the length of the damage made by your dog, you could try to use the functioning part, or you could take a chance with one of these. If you’re not an electrician, my recommendation is the take a unit to a repair shop. It shouldn’t cost you more than $20-$30 to have it back as good as new.
Mariah says
I had a UV795 & I loved it until it had an issue with the bare floor setting. I contacted Shark & they are sending me a replacement but it is the NV750W. They said they send the next best (upgrade) to what my model was, but I don’t think that is the case. Wouldn’t the NV755 be the next model up from my UV795? I’m know I’m not losing much from the XL but I still am not happy to lose that since that was a big factor why I bought it.
Jason Roberts says
You’re right Mariah, it would make better sense to have it replaced by the NV755.
