Hello folks, just got back from my late autumn mini-vacation and I’m already ready to present you another fabulous product. The hybrid cleaning product market is accelerating towards new frontiers with the latest Shark Rotator Vac or Steam. I have to say, although there are some minor negative aspects, I’ve enjoyed this product as much as the Bissell Symphony I’ve reviewed a while ago. Thus, I’ll also be comparing these products within this post and hopefully, we can decide together which is better.
The Rotator Vac or Steam is a power packed all-in-one vacuum cleaner that can clean all floor surfaces; carpets and bare floors. In fact, after vacuuming, you can finish with its powerful hot steam mop leaving your home much cleaner than before. Its multi-allergen filter is fitted with complete seal technology and can even clean your air when you vacuum! You can get this product online today with this really good deal, or you can spend one more minute and read all you need to know about it bellow. Before we move forward, I’d like to take a brief pause and remind you that the Black Friday is getting close. The prices on almost all vacuum cleaners I’ve reviewed so far dropped with at least 15% (some are even discounted with 50%). I’ve taken some time and updated everything, so now you can find the latest price information right here on my blog.

This Shark has good attachments: it comes with an on-board dusting brush and crevice tool, and two multipurpose pads. With its regular use every area of your house will be spotless because you can move it effortlessly throughout your house due to its light weight design.
It’s also the world’s first vacuum with interchangeable heads that offer high performance suction with auto-shutoff and offers True No Loss Suction. It has intelligent 3-level steam control to mop, dust and scrub. It also has hard floor shutoff to ensure bare floor cleaning. It’s fitted with swivel steering to ensure easy maneuverability. But let’s see all of these nicely put in the sheet of features.
The sheet of features
Suction & steam power | When talking about the suction of this product, the one thing that needs to be mentioned is the True No Loss of Suction technology (offered by the cyclonic technology). Additionally, the brushroll completely seals the airflow between the rotator system and the flooring. This results in a good suction power that would make most low budget uprights jealous. After changing the heads, you can steam at 212 F degrees, a temperature that sanitizes all you need to be sanitized. The steam can be controlled on 3 levels in order to dust, mop or scrub. The process of changing head is relatively simple, as you can see in the figure bellow. The only thing you really have to remember is to unplug the device before starting the switching operation: ![]() |
Input power | According to its manual, it works with 120V., 60hz, consuming 1200w. The Vac-or Steam is ENERGY STAR certified, as acknowledgement of its energy performance. |
Tank capacity | Its water tank can hold up to 500 ml (16.9 oz.) of liquid. A special flask will help you fill in the task with precise water quantities. Shark states on the Vac-OR-Steam user's manual that you need only regular water to get the sanitizing steam. However, I recommend you use tap water only if you will empty the tank after you finish cleaning, because it contains minerals which will form residues that will eventually clog the device. If you want to leave the water in, you can use distilled water which you can buy at your grocery store. |
Filtration system and steam pads | At the filtration chapter, this product performs very well. As you know, pet dander and loose dirt such as soil can be a big problem on hard floors. If there are lot of kids and pets in your house, then you would like to vacuum at least once every two days. On the first layer, one can find the washable filters made out of foam which according to the producer, never need to be replaced. On the second layer, it has an anti-allergen HEPA filtration, which coupled with the complete seal technology, filters 99.9% of airborne particles. Therefore, when you vacuum, the allergens and dust will stay inside the unit. The machine will make your floors look cleaner and the indoor environment much healthier. This would ensure less allergy flare-ups and less sneezing throughout the year! The product also comes with 2 washable micro-fiber pads. I recommend you get the pads wet before starting to steam around, as the steam will penetrate them much easier. |
Weight and Dimensions | It's relatively light, as it weights only 11.4 pounds. Measures 26.1" x 16.5" x 11.4" and has a 11" cleaning path width. |
Warranty | Usually comes with 2-year limited warranty, when bought from BestBuy or Costco. However, this product is relatively old, so you most likely can get a refurbished version on Amazon with 1 year warranty. |
Accessories | A good amount of accessories, including: - 2 pads - 1 water flask - a steam carpet glider, a crevice tool, a dusting brush and a hose. |
Special features | Ergonomic handle - has good grip and balance, for a better feel while carrying. |
Usability | The 30 ft. of power cord are more than enough for most cleaning tasks. The hose stretches and additional 10 ft. The rubberized handle grip prevents slipping and provides a good feel. The product is fairly quiet, unlike most hybrids I've put my hands on. The swivel steering works great for all types of people. The brushroll can be turned on or off, depending on your cleaning needs:![]() |
Price | You can buy this product brand new at Price not available, or refurbished at half price. The product is no longer available on the producer's site; I don't know why since a lot of people are still interested in buying this. |
The most unique thing about Shark Rotator Vac or Steam is its design, and this is where “the looks can be deceiving” expression comes into play! It has incredibly slim line with beautiful red filter right at its bottom. You’ll also find that it’s lightweight and is best for both young and old who usually find it hard to get around. Its swivel head makes it easy to get to the edges of the base boards and all hard to reach corners. It handle has ergonomic design, so controlling it is a breeze., just like you can see in this video:
Design
Shark Rotator Vac or Steam is a fine looking vacuum but doesn’t appear high-end like many other models. Its glossy white exteriors with red accents belie its more modern functionality. However, its slightly dated design doesn’t hurt its features. Its definitely a solidly built vacuum with strong and sturdy components that will keep it operational for years.
The wand feels secure and sturdy, and its has a transparent bin that isn’t flimsy. As discussed above, it’s easy to carry around in canister mode. Just don’t expect this budget buy to have all bells and whistles of high end models, and you won’t be disappointed. It’s so functional that you would want various Shark accessories and attachment to fit on the vacuum.
To its wand, you can easily add flexible crevice tool to vacuum corners. This is a multipurpose tool and does well on hard surfaces and upholstery, and its straight suction nozzle can pick up stuff small or big from area rugs or bare floors, and its power brush can take on dirt from carpeted stairs, upholstery and can also handle pet hair with ease. Its dusting brush can remove dust from fabrics. You can switch it between canister and upright vacuum so you can carry it around while using its cleaning wand.

Verdict and VGMhy
The Shark Rotator Vac or Steam is a very good and reliable vacuum with intuitive design and solid construction. Few other vacuum models may have performed better, but none of them can match this vacuum’s sweeper’s value for the price, except maybe for the Bissell Symphony. Without any other words, here’s the VGMhy:
What you will love most about this vacuum is that it definitely cuts down the amount of time you spend cleaning your carpets and hard floors. It eliminates the need to vacuum your home first and then reach for the mop and the bucket. The results as you’ll see on Amazon and hundreds of other sites are very well received by thousands of people. It’s price might knock you off your chair as well! So, what do you think about the Shark Vac or Steam? Is it better than the Bissell Symphony?

Do you think they are about to release an updated version?
If it STOPPED WORKING AFTER 6 MONTHS how was the warranty experience/speed of replacement?
Did the one they replaced it with stop running after 6 months too?
I wonder if they fixed whatever was making them quite after 6 months (if this was widely experienced) in the reconditioned units???

Great questions! First of all, I really hope they’ll release an upgrade, as they did with the Rotator and Rocket. Vac or Steam is a great concept, and Bissell Symphony has a great success. The product should be replaced or repaired as all the other Shark products. Usually, if they repair the problem, the product should be as good as new, but in reality no one knows for sure if, after you get it back, it will last you another 6 months or another 6 years. The issues may be diverse, from limescale deposits to electronics failure. There is no universal solution, you just have to keep the same level of maintenance.

What I need to know is if it sucks water out of the carpet or if the steam feature is only for hard floors.
I know I’ve seen carpet cleaner/ vacuum combos before but can’t seem to find one now that I’m actually looking for one to purchase!
Jason Roberts says
It doesn’t suck water/it’s not supposed to suck water. The steam head is mostly for bare floors, and it’s only meant for steaming.
